Peru

the Sacred Trek

In October 2019, I set off on a solo trek to Peru. I spent two days in Lima, exploring the beautiful capitol city and then took a quick flight to Cuzco. I explored the tourist-raved town of Cuzco for a couple days, falling in love with the lively energy of the people and culture. I then took a local van up into the mountains to Calca, where I began the Lares Trek to Machu Picchu. Unfortunately, I did not take the advice of locals and attempted to navigate the trek alone. Much to my dismay, the trek through El Valle Sagrado (The Sacred Valley) was not marked and I became lost on Day 1, about 6 hours into hiking. Luckily, I ran into a couple from Portugal on their honeymoon who let me traverse the trek with them for a couple days. I made it to Ollantaytambo where I took the Peru Rail to Machu Picchu and saw the awe-inspiring UNESCO World Heritage Sight.

A truly life-changing experience that shaped my love for travel and exploration.

Muchas Gracias, Pachamama.
